Tip:

Working with young children can be a challenging task but a lot of fun at the same time, especially when you witness their successes based on the instruction you just gave them. Tossing, catching, throwing, rolling, bouncing and hitting, among several other skills, are part of the athletic foundation needed for tennis play.

This week’s tip focuses on developing the skills needed to maneuver the racquet at a young age. USTA Director of Youth Play and Competition Craig Jones highlights the importance of “hand before racquet” exercises and shares some progression drills that will help players improve their catching skills and their transition to the tennis racquet.
