Mental–Example of cheating

Description:
Check out the video clip titled “Mental–Example of cheating,” taken from the “Player Developent Interviews” series and featuring USPTA Master Professionals. In this video interview, Jim Parker discusses the issue of cheating in the game of tennis and gives an example of how cheating can harm a player’s career and reputation along the way.

Tip:
Tennis is supposed to be a gentleman’s game, where fair play and sportsmanship are always present. But as we all know, there are players who are not always fair and try to win points by making bad calls. However, not many players are aware that cheating can have a long-term effect on a player’s reputation.

USPTA Master Professional Jim Parker shares insight about a player who earned a reputation as a cheater when he was a junior and kept that label even when he became a senior player. Although his attitude had changed completely as he matured, players of his generation remembered him the same way and never had the desire to socialize with him. Parker points out that cheating may help with short-term results, but it does not help in the long run. It takes a high level of integrity to be a classy tennis player.
