Players Environment

Video description:
In the video “Players Environment,” USPTA Master Professional David Porter, Ed.D., offers his insight on the environmental aspect of a player’s game. He discusses how the home and social environments can have a profound impact, both positively and negatively, on a developing player’s performance and training.

Tip:
For any tennis player, there will always be that day when his or her shots just aren’t falling in the court, footwork and movement are sluggish, or the mental focus seems to be missing. In some cases, these “off” days are the result of an entirely different issue that is not tennis-related. Whether there are problems going on at home or in the player’s social life, these environmental issues can create mental distraction.

In order to decrease the impact of these issues on a player’s game, it is important for coaches to understand where the problem is coming from and be able to keep the player focused on the court. To gain a better understanding of this aspect of the game, visit TennisResources.com and enter the word “Environment” into the Quick Search field. There, you will find a number of videos featuring one-on-one interviews with top teaching professionals as they address the issue of how a player’s environment outside of tennis can affect his or her game.
